Preservation begins
with structure.
Thoughtful pruning, informed decisions, and a long-term view of the trees that shape your property.
Our specialty
Tree pruning
Structural pruning is the foundation of our work. We selectively manage branches to improve their arrangement, reduce excessive mechanical loads, and lower the likelihood of branch failure during storms while respecting the tree’s natural form.
Every project begins with a site visit and an objectives-based pruning prescription informed by your concerns, the tree’s condition, and current research.
We evaluate branch attachments, competing stems, and overextended limbs to identify where selective reduction or removal can address the objectives. Clearance from buildings and other features is considered alongside the tree’s structure.
Using modern rope-climbing systems, our team works throughout the canopy. The location and extent of pruning are chosen for each tree, with careful attention to the foliage retained and the size of the cuts.
A longer view
Tree preservation
Preservation is the purpose behind our pruning. We help guide young trees as they develop and manage structural concerns in mature trees, with a long-term view of their place in your landscape.
For young trees, early structural guidance can encourage well-spaced branches and an appropriate framework for the species. For mature trees, our focus includes managing loads on vulnerable limbs and addressing dead or damaged branches.
The aim is to retain trees where practical through measured work and periodic reassessment as their condition and surroundings change.
Careful decisions
Tree removal
When retention is no longer practical, when development makes it unviable, or when you choose removal, we plan the work around the tree and its surroundings. Our team specializes in controlled dismantling in confined or difficult-to-access locations.
We begin with an evaluation of the tree, access, and surrounding property. A removal may be appropriate because of the tree’s condition, unresolved risk, conflicts with planned site use, or the owner’s objectives.
Ropes and rigging allow branches and sections of wood to be lowered in a controlled manner where conditions permit. The methods and equipment are selected for the site, with careful consideration for the surrounding landscape.

The Boston Liberty Tree
At the corner of Essex Street and what is now Washington Street, a large elm once held a remarkable place in Boston’s history. Beginning in 1765, colonists gathered beneath its branches to protest the Stamp Act. Known as the Liberty Tree, it became a symbol of resistance in the years leading to the American Revolution.
The tree was cut down during the British occupation of Boston in 1775. Its significance endured, becoming part of the city’s memory and the story of American independence.
The Liberty Tree reminds us that trees can become gathering places, landmarks, and expressions of a community’s identity. Their significance can outlast their lives. That connection between trees and people is part of what makes their care and preservation matter.
